Casodex, or generic Casodex (bicalutamide), is an anti-androgen. It works together with another hormone for the treatment of prostrate cancer and is often prescribed as a drug for bladder-prostate medication. Casodex is an oral and non-steroidal anti-androgen that has an off-white color. The bicalutamide content of Casodex acts akin to a pure anti-androgen via binding to the AR (androgen receptor), thereby preventing any activation of ARs and subsequent up-regulation of the androgen responsive genes through androgenic hormones.
It’s pertinent to mention that generic Casodex, like any other non-steroidal anti-androgens, blocks the effect of testosterone (the male sex hormone in the body.) Administering a non-steroidal anti-androgen along with another treatment, which decreases the volume of testosterone produced by the body, is a method to treat prostrate cancer.
